NBA例行賽新球季將在台灣時間周三揭開序幕，勇士隊作客迎戰馬刺隊是當日焦點賽事，馬刺教頭波波維奇（Gregg Popovich）今天受訪表示，會非常想念傷兵格林（Danny Green）的防守。
對上打快節奏的勇士，防守無疑是馬刺想贏球的一大關鍵。但主將格林因左大腿拉傷而確定缺陣開幕賽事，還要修養長達3周，對此波波維奇坦言：「比起攻擊火力，我們更需要他的防守。尤其是對上節奏快速的勇士，格林不在勢必讓我們相當有挑戰。」對上勇士的這戰會很艱難，波波維奇已經預想到了，他說：「進攻也許會失常，但他的防守對我們來說太重要。」
「黑衫軍」老將吉諾布里（Manu Ginobili）也贊同此論點，他說：「格林是我們最棒的防守大鎖，一人可以防3個位置。」
格林受傷確定暫時缺陣之後，安德森（Kyle Anderson）、西蒙斯（Jonathon Simmons）的責任吃重，前一場對上火箭隊的熱身賽中，安德森已經先發上陣模擬戰況。波波維奇表示，因為兩人都會獲得更多上場時間，因此嘗試著引導他們表現穩定，「他們不是在垃圾時間才上場，而是很重要的時刻，前10場比賽可觀察一下兩人在攻守端的貢獻。」
西蒙斯前役雖然輪休，不過波波維奇表態這位菜鳥球員的狀況沒問題。
